Applications Process

When?

Applications open August 1st of your senior year. Institutional applications (via college website) can open in July of your senior year

How to Apply?

Option 1: The Universal Applications

Admission programs like The Common App (900+ colleges) and The Coalition App and Scoir (400+ colleges), and Black Common App (60+ HBCUs) have created partnerships with hundreds of schools to help make applying to multiple schools easier. You must check with the school you are interested in to see what type of Universal Application process they are partnered with.

Option 2: The Institutional Application

Visit the website of the University that you are interested in and find the digital application. This application process will be for this school only.

How many applications?

On average, seniors submit 7-10 college applications.

Find the right fit for your college experience?

It is important to create a checklist of important factors that you are looking for in your college experience. Examples of factors to use in your checklist include:

  • GPA admission requirements

  • SAT/ACT score admission requirements (many schools could now be test optional)

  • Cost of education

  • Scholarships offered & accepted

  • Academic course offerings

  • Geographic location

  • Student body size

  • Student life & activities & athletics

  • Research opportunities

  • Study abroad options

  • IB & AP credit acceptances
